Hot Picks: Summer Styles To Get You Hot Under The Collar!
Sheer Glamour
Daring? Maybe, bang on trend? Definitely.
After spending the best part of two years wearing a tracksuit, the thought of showing off a little more skin may be daunting, but the sheer trend is in and it's set to be everywhere this summer as fashion gets a taste for a new level of sexiness.
From sheer two pieces on the Elleme S/S 22 runway to rhinestone-embellished mesh looks a lá Maddy’s infamous prom ensemble in Euphoria season 1. The great thing about this trend is that it is surprisingly versatile. Layer pieces to protect modesty and play around with textures, prints and colours.
For those a little more hesitant, dip a toe in the trend with a sheer blouse such as this Motel Rocks crop and add a cute bralette underneath or commit to the trend with a mesh midi such as this abstract printed mesh look from Meshki.
Micro Minis
The micro mini is back and better than ever. Pleated skirts may be the midi of the summer season, but the 90’s mini is taking centre stage and our inner Naomi Campbell is thrilled. A resurgence in 90’s trends are storming the runway and have taken pop-culture by storm thanks to shows such as Pam & Tommy. S/S 22 shows saw a selection of miniscule hemlines with bold, block coloured minis at Prada and chainmail pieces with thigh splits fastened with an iconic safety pin at Versace.
While we pray for a scorching summer to pair such pieces with platform sandals or strappy heels, sometimes summer time weather just doesn't hit the mark. Give a nod to 60’s mod-style and pair with knee high boots, Twiggy lashes optional.
Tick the sheer and micro mini trend with this tattoo-print skirt from Urban Outfitters or go bold with a block coloured ensemble such as this tangerine two-piece from Pretty Little Thing.
Cut it out
The cut out trend has graced many a runway in recent years and there is nothing new about this trend, but it is pretty clear to see it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
The perfect way to flash a little flesh and a trend that can be as dramatic or subtle as you like. Jonathan Simkhai debuted silky slips with waist cutouts and chain detailing at his S/S 22 show and searches for I.AM.GIA’s strappy, hip-cutout trousers soared.
Whether opting for a classic open-back dress or a more avant garde cutout, this trend can truly be for everyone and is the perfect ventilation during those hot summer months. Experiment with cutouts that expose a flash of body jewellery or layer contrasting pieces underneath asymmetric openings for a more modest approach to this trend.
Give the trend a subtle nod with this cutout cardigan from Pretty Little Thing or surrender completely with I.AM.GIA’s Lucid Pant with strappy hip detailing for a more dramatic take on the trend.
White Hot
While bold colours are certainly in this season, crisp white ensembles are the minimalist staples of the summer season. White suiting with stark contrasting accessories is the cool-girl spring/summer uniform.
From crisp white shirt dresses reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw’s raided-boyfriend’s-closet moment to show-stopping power suits that make a serious statement. Classic tailoring goes a long way and nothing says spring/summer quite like an all white outfit. Take it to the monochrome max with all white accessories and offset with dramatic eye-makeup, (think that Julia Fox wing) or pair with bright shoes and dazzling gold jewellery for elevated summer glam.
This structured white shirt dress from Oh Polly is about to become your Summer wardrobe go-to. Dress it up with a gold chain belt and lace-up heels or dress it down with an oversized blazer and chunky loafers for a touch of Parisian chic. Alternatively, keep it classic with an adrogynous suit such as this Zara double-breasted blazer and loose fit trouser suit. Pair with a bold shoe and bag combo for ultimate style points.
